About Me

Visit itsYOURkin, LLC.

Welcome to my personal home page, it is my hope it will show who I am and what skills I have. I have a variety of interests and projects and it is a strong mantra of mine to never multi-task. I don’t believe we can put our full focus into anything if part of us is busy doing something else at the same time. Even though I have many projects going on at one time I still focus solely on the task at hand for whatever period of time I have given it. There is a quote by Philip Stanhope that sums up my feelings on this, "There is time enough for everything, in the course of the day, if you do but one thing at once; but there is not time enough in the year, if you will do two things at a time." I have never really been good at chewing gum and talking at the same time anyways.

While I sometimes enjoy just sitting back and staring into a sunset or the surface of a lake, I generally like to keep myself busy. If I’m staying still too long I start to feel like I’m losing productivity. I believe time is our most precious and finite resource and requires the most strict controls. I try to organize and utilize my periodic capital as most efficiently as possible. I work to fulfill the needs I am going to have now with the next I will have in the future. Time can never be borrowed or saved, you have what you have and it will be spent with or without you.

Just a warning, this paragraph will be more technical than the others. If you are aren't a computer geek, go ahead and skip to the next one. Most of my time is spent developing software and working with a computer. I am a software and database designer, a developer, and systems administrator with over 20 years of experience. I have worked across a variety of platforms and systems. In my carrer I have installed and administered many LINUX servers, both large and small scale. In utilizing both a waterfall and agile development cycle, I am able to quickly produce complex applications. I am a strong advocate of implementing version controls and strong documentation of everything I work on. I consider pre-planning the most important aspect of any project, and will dedicate a healthy dose of time to it. I am committed to a strong work ethic and discipline and have worked remotely or over 25 years. I also strive to constantly expand my knowledge base and keep informed of new trends and technologies.

I currently am spending most of my time on a single project. This project is a family photo and history building and sharing site. I call it itsYOURkin and hope to market it soon and see what the world thinks of it. If you have an interest in being your family historian, or sharing your photo albums, take a look at it, the link is on the top of this page, and in the menu. It’s free to set up an account and use, you’ll get to use all the features, though they will be limited in how much you can add, there are no disabled features in the free account. It’s a work in progress, and there are many new features and improvements that will go into it as time goes on. I have also found it very useful in organizing and sharing my personal photography, which you can find links to in the menu.

As noted in the above paragraph, I have an interest in photography. I take nature and some city scenes, I have never really gotten into portrait photography. Over the years I’ve even sold one or two of my photos, but it's just a hobby. I like taking a day trip somewhere and just taking photos along the way. I always end up taking several hundred but only a handful will I like and share. If you like some of my photos feel free to download them and use them however you like. I do ask that you at least credit me if you are going to use them for anything other than personal use.

A new interest I have been working on is in writing, while I have nothing at the moment to share, keep your eye out. I have several projects in work and hope to begin sharing them soon. Who knows, maybe one day I’ll try to publish a book. I have many other interests, and even have worked on an idea about chess. This idea is that it does not require that you consider your future moves, but rather that there is a perfect mathematical move for any board position. So far, however, a solution has eluded me. Never give up they say, and perhaps it can’t be done, but it’s sure fun trying to solve it. Isn't that what it's really about?

This road traveled that we call life is quite the journey. I have many interests, goals, desires, and paths I want to take in life. In the end, it’s not whether it was the correct path, a finished path, or even a path at all, but rather what I learned, what I enjoyed, and what it has added to who am I as I go. It is my hope that I keep adding and growing for many years to come, and thank you for taking your time to read this. If there is anything I can do for you, or any questions you have, hit the Contact Me link and I’ll do my best to respond back to you.
